WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, The Runaway announced that they would be closing imminently. This was made on an Instagram announcement where they claimed to be hosting their last-ever show on January 20th. According to the eatery and bar, next week would operate on reduced hours before their final goodbye.
Written on Instagram, the announcement claimed that the final band at the venue would be the Broken Hills album release party. This would take place at 8:30 PM and the announcement read: ‘Here is the very last show at the runaway. We made it almost 2 years but, we just can’t hang on any longer. This next week will be limited hours. Please come and say goodbye.’ Here, they also thanked customers for their years of support.
Known best as a quirky burger joint, located at 3523 12th Street NE, The Runaway is renowned for its juicy patties, electric ambiance, and local musical performances. Usually, they’re open every day from 5 PM, but if you’re up for a unique brunch experience, they also offer bottomless brunch on the weekends.
Aside from the emotional announcement, Runaway didn’t disclose why they chose to close. Having said this, the nature of the wording sounded like it was financially motivated due to struggling to ‘hang on’. At this point, it is not known what will replace the establishment.
