Thomas Erwin “Tommy” Taylor, a resident of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on March 5, 2024, at the age of 62. He was born on February 8, 1962, in Cairo, Illinois, to Earl Edwin and Marian (Burley) Taylor. Tommy is survived by his siblings, John Taylor, Sarah Lovin, and Margaret Whitton, as well as several nieces and nephews, including James Lovin. Tommy was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Joseph, Charles, Willie, Robert, Hugh, James, Mary Thompson, and Ann Sumner.
Tommy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling with his nephew, Tony Taylor. He was known for his love of family, his willingness to help others, and his role in raising many family members. In recent years, he cared for his three nieces and their mother, Ligaya Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will take place at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mount Vernon at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Tommy’s honor to the Taylor Family, in care of James Lovin. Tommy’s presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and cared for him.
