Obituary – 2024 03/01 – Veleta J. Catron

Veleta “Sis” J. Catron, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on May 6, 1953, to Clyde and Pauline (Jackson) Ellis, Veleta was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sibling.

Veleta is survived by her loving husband of nearly 51 years, Larry Catron, as well as her three daughters, Michelle Rainey, Jessica Whitecotton, and Megan Catron, and their respective spouses and children. She is also survived by her siblings, Darlene James, Gayla Cremeens, Kevin Ellis, Duaine Ellis, Gary Ellis, Jeff Ellis, and Kelly Ellis, and their spouses.

Throughout her life, Veleta was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals and cherished spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. Her warm and loving nature endeared her to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the Mount Vernon community.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Harmony Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois, with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow the service.
