MOBILE, AL – This week saw the opening of Penton’s Bistro which is housed at the former location of Cafe 219 in Mobile. With a hearty menu and extensive wine list, Penton’s looks to be less casual compared to its predecessor as it offers a number of classic bistro dishes in an intimate setting.
Specifically, the menu at Penton’s Bistro & the King Bleu Corner Bar features a diverse selection of dishes that cater to various tastes and preferences. Some standout offerings include appetizers like tuna tartare and eggplant beignets, soups and salads, small plates such as airline chicken breast and duck cassolette, and large plates featuring the catch of the day, seared diver scallops, and potato gnocchi with short rib ragu. These dishes are typically priced around $15 while the ribeye costs $38. Keeping it Southern, it also offers gumbo soup, and crawfish beignets as starters.
This isn’t too surprising given Mobile’s history which boasts a rich culinary landscape that is shaped by its coastal location, diverse population, and deep-rooted heritage. Seafood plays a prominent role in the city’s cuisine, with fresh catches like oysters, shrimp, and grouper being a staple on many menus. This is hardly surprising given Mobile’s proximity to the Gulf Coast, which provides an abundant supply of high-quality seafood.
Penton’s is open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and is open from 5 AM to 9 PM on Saturdays while being closed on Sundays.
