Juanita V. Turner, a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at the age of 99. She was born on March 28, 1924, to Olen and Verne (Cowger) Jones and was married to Lendell Ray Turner for fifty years before his passing in 1998.
Juanita is survived by her daughters, Janet S. Hall and Anne Wilcoxon; grandchildren, Kimberly Moore, Meredith Tilley, Ryan Gavin, Elizabeth Gavin, Erin Young; great-grandchildren, Audrey Poe, Emily Cooper, Katelyn Tilley, Chiana Moore, Dylan Young, Emma Gavin, Brooklyn Young, Nora Hisel, and Gavin Hisel; great-great-grandchild, Peyton Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, husband, and infant son, Juanita was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Grimes and Frances Johnson; brothers, Walter Jones, Charles Jones, Robert Jones, and Loren “Chub” Jones; and granddaughter, Kimberly Hall-Moore.
Throughout her life, Juanita was a dedicated member of the Crossroads Hospital Auxiliary and Logan Street Baptist Church. She worked as a teller at Security Bank for several years and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm, officiated by Reverend John Ashby. Interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made in Juanita’s honor to the American Diabetes Association or Residential Hospice.
