Fires ravaged the state of California, burning over 152,000 acres of land (npr.com) across Butte, Los Angeles, and Ventura County, (fire.ca.gov).

Camp Fire, occurring in northern California (Butte County) was responsible for the majority of 81 deaths attributed to California wildfires over the past month (abcnews.go.com).

In southern California, the Woolsey Fire has destroyed at least 1,643 structures, but is at 96% containment (abc7.com).

Singer/songwriter Miley Cyrus confirmed that her home was destroyed in the Woolsey Fire, as well as actor Gerard Butler, and singer/songwriter Robin Thicke, via social media. Other celebrity evacuations include Caitlyn Jenner, Lady Gaga, Orlando Bloom, and Jessica Simpson (cosmopolitan.com).

In addition, President Donald Trump drew criticism in his response to the fires, tweeting:

There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!” (@realDonaldTrump twitter.com).
