North Korea Hacking Us-South Korea

A large number of top secret documents have reportedly been stolen from South Korea, including plans to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. South Korean Lawmaker Rhee Cheol-hee stated that “the information was from his country’s defense ministry” (bbc.com).

The documents also included reports to the allied commanders, and “wartime contingency plans drawn up by the US and South Korea” (bbc.com).

Power plants and military facility plans were among the documents accessed by the North Korean hackers. Cheol-hee said that “235 gigabytes of military documents had been stolen from the Defense Integrated Data Centre” (bbc.com).

This hack took place last September. South Korea thought that the hack might have come from North Korea but could not be certain. They investigated the hack but gave no details on what was taken. Seoul has been subjected to a lot of cyber attacks by North Korea.

North Korea has accused South Korea of making false claims.

The Pentagon in the US and South Korea have denied to comment on what happened.
