This week has been a fun one in music!  With albums being heavily anticipated and singles being teased for weeks ahead, we knew something great would be in store.

Travis Scott released “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM” at midnight.  The bass-heavy single is a melancholy boast of relationship issues, but also a fast lifestyle.  Gucci Mane and Megan Thee Stallion comes through with a single that doesn’t take itself too seriously.  “Big Booty” samples “Hoochie Mama” by 2 LIVE CREW and you can guarentee that it has the same hip shaking sound to it as the original.  “Gucci Pajamas” by Guapdad 4000 featuring Chance the Rapper and Charlie Wilson has the same kind of head-bopping, carefree message.  “Joro” by Wizkid gives us his usual dancehall flair.

The Black Eyes Peas return with their 3rd single this year.  On “eXplosion”, Anitta leads with vocals and lyrics infused with patois.  “Midnight Hour” follows in the playlist with a slow introduction and high tempo beat drop.  Skrillex strategically places vocals from Boys Noize and Ty Dolla $ign along with a sample from City Cirls’ “Act Up”.  Flume and Reo Cragun’s “Quits” gets us in our feelings in the most rhythmic way.

Transitioning to 88rising’s 4th single from their album dropping next week Head in the Clouds II, on “Breathe”, Joji and the gang offer the lo-fi pop that we’ve come to know and love.

Jumex and Travis Barker surprised us with the punk single, “SPRAYPAINT”.  Keep your eyes on this up and coming artist!  Next, Charlie Puth blesses us with an early 2000s R&B inspired track called “Cheating on You”.  This is his 3rd single this year.  Speaking of R&B, Summer Walker gave us her debut album Over It today and we couldn’t be more grateful.  This is the new wave of R&B that we never knew we needed.

Keeping the tempo of the playlist, Camila Cabello ushers in “Cry for Me”, a painful, but upbeat breakup tune.  Niall Horan’s “Nice to Meet Ya” is a playful, pop tune about a fling that has yet to stick around.

Dan + Shay slow the playlist down with a song featuring Justin Bieber.  “10,000 Hours” leaves us with the warm and fuzzy feeling with every heartfelt lyric.  While Finneas’ “Lost My Mind” and Halsey’s “clementine” let us down easy toward the end of the playlist by showing us the distressing side of love.

Some other notable songs released this week: “3 Tearz” by Danny Brown, “All This Music Must Fade” by The Who, “Bottom B****” by Doja Cat, “Death Standing” by CHVRHES, and “Bandit” by Juice WRLD.
