When a team makes the playoffs every year for seven years running, there’s a certain expectation that said team will continue that success to some extent. The Chicago Bulls are currently under that expectation of success. However, this year the Bulls are the outsiders looking in, as the playoffs grow ever closer.

As of March 31st, at 9:00pm central time, the Bulls are 38-37, and sitting in 9th place in the eastern conference and just one position out of a playoff spot. According to ESPN’s basketball power index, the Bulls have a 34.5% chance of making playoffs.

Compared to the other teams fighting for a playoff picture, the Bulls have a relatively easy schedule, only playing 4 out of their last 8 games against a team with a record above .500 (more wins than losses), and the other four games are against teams who are towards the bottom of the league. On top of that, when Chicago plays Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers later this month, they might already have playoffs locked resulting in weaker teams being put on the court to avoid unnecessary injuries.

To put it simply, the Bulls need to win a majority of their remaining games to even have a shot of making the playoffs, and the most important game on that remaining schedule is on Saturday, April 2nd, against the 7th place Detroit Pistons, who are only ahead of the Bulls by 2 wins.

In spite of that, the situation seems cautiously optimistic. The Bulls just might have what it takes to make playoffs, especially after coming off two close wins against 8th placed Indiana Pacers, and 9th placed (in the west) Houston.

The Bulls are one win away from being in a playoff spot, and have a very winnable 8 games ahead of them, and with their roommates in the Madhouse on Madison already having their ticket to the postseason punched. Only time will tell if Chicago will get playoff basketball this year come April 14th.
